Leipzig, December 21th<\/sup> 2023 \u2013<\/strong> Last year, in October 2022, the Independent JPEG Group (IJG) provided a new preview version of libjpeg 9f, completing the support for the two major Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) for the creation of applications with a graphical user interface (GUI) on the Microsoft Windows platform: Microsoft Visual Studio\/Microsoft Visual C++ (MSVC) and Embarcadero RAD Studio (Rapid Application Development)\/C++Builder\/Delphi.<\/p>\n

Microsoft Windows is the dominant platform in Desktop Computing, followed by the Apple Mac platform. This year Apple introduced new devices which enable the Independent JPEG Group to add support for the major Integrated Development Environment on macOS, Xcode, thus completing the support for the three major Integrated Development Environments in Desktop Computing overall.<\/p>\n

The new version libjpeg 9f is scheduled for release in January 2024.<\/p>\n

With these features the Independent JPEG Group ensures that the JPEG image format can be properly supported by application software developed with the major Integrated Development Environments. About Independent JPEG Group (IJG)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

IJG is an informal group that writes and distributes a widely used free library for JPEG image compression on a non-profit basis. The first version of this library was released on 7-Oct-1991. After this, many versions of libjpeg were created to make the standard sustainable for future applications. The IJG was headed originally by Thomas Lane and since 2005 by Guido Vollbeding. From 2008 the IJG is part of the Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI) in Leipzig, where the format is developed further. The\u00a0reference software of the\u00a0Independent JPEG Group was\u00a0a\u00a0key to\u00a0the success of\u00a0the original JPEG standard and\u00a0has found widespread adoption in\u00a0applications of\u00a0image coding. The Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI)<\/em><\/strong> e.V. in Leipzig furthers Science and Research on the fields of Information Technology and Business Informatics.
